About Our Family Taekwondo Classes:


These are our busiest classes as many families and individuals enjoy the traditional Taekwondo sessions on offer. The ages range from 6 to 70 as you will enjoy the fitness, self-defence, pad work, bag work, fun exercises, meeting new people, learning combinations, no contact sparring and most of all the martial art itself called Taekwondo.




So what really is Taekwondo?


Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics.


Let’s take a closer look at the meaning of the word “Tae” “Kwon” “Do.” It is composed of three parts as shown in the English spelling, though it is one word in Korean. “Tae” means “foot,” “leg,” or “to step on”; “Kwon” means “fist,” or “fight”; and “Do” means the “way” or “discipline.” If we put these three parts together, we can see two important concepts behind “Tae Kwon Do”.


What will I expect in a typical beginners lesson?


A gentle warm up followed by an all over stretch which will help you become more flexible and toned. You will do some of the basic and spectacular kicks associated with Taekwondo on padded or non padded targets.  We rotate the learning of self-defence skills plus learning Taekwondo patterns and non contact sparring.  Each lesson has some key elements while keeping it interesting by integrating different aspects of Taekwondo each week. These work well towards the quarterly gradings that are held in the local region. We may also have some fun learning martial art games like; kick target speed hitting to improve your reflexes, partner races and fast feet workouts.


Will I be fit enough?


We often have new starters that come into the group that worry about the level of fitness required to start. Master Colin Graves encourages you to train to your own ability and can often motivate you to keep going at your own pace. Our aim is to build up your confidence so you can allow yourself to push harder to reach another level of fitness.


Will I lose weight and tone up?


Absolutely!!! The family Taekwondo  classes are a great way lose weight as you will surprise yourself how well you cope with the step up in exercises. Some of the routines will help you become more flexible and supple as we focus on every part of the body to get you in shape; thighs, bums, tums, chest etc.

We encourage students to eat sensibly if they want to build up stamina and strength as it’s important to combined exercise and diets together for better results.


Will it be expensive as a family?


We have special discounts for all the family, each person will pay £5 a session while a family of three will just pay for two. If you are a family of four + then it’s just going to cost £12-50 every time. Some of the tigers can train again during that week at one of the children classes we hold and they only need to pay a further fee of £3-50.


How do I start?


Your first class is a free introduction to see if this is what you are looking for. On your first appearance you will be asked to fill out a membership form attached to the starters letter. 




Our Family classes are held at Holbury, Lymington and Totton. Each class has a great atmosphere that you are welcome to come and join in at anytime.
